The irony that Daichi Kamada, who won the Europa League under Glasner while they were at Eintracht Frankfurt before he brought him to Selhurst Park on a free transfer, should score his first Premier League goal to equalise in his 68th appearance was surely not lost on the Austrian.

Full-time: Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest At 40 minutes in, Palace looked lost, and yet they entered half-time 2-1 up, and for all the chances that Forest have created, Palace showed it pays off to take them. A huge win for Pierre Sage, and Oliver Glasner’s tough start continues.
3.59pm BST
Full-time: Hull 2-2 Everton It was hearty stuff and Hull continue to show plenty of heart. When Thierno Barry put Everton in the lead, the Tigers found a way back in, with Mohamed Belloumi smashing the equaliser. The word is out: Hull is a tough away trip.
3.54pm BST
Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest: Four minutes to play at Selhurst.
3.53pm BST
Hull 2-2 Everton: Five added minutes in which to find a winner.
3.52pm BST
Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest: If Forest could find a goal then Palace might start to panic. The problem is that Forest are struggling to score good chances. They will not want to watch back today’s collection of blown opportunities.
3.50pm BST
Hull 2-2 Everton: Both teams fancy victory here, and Elliot Stroud whips up the crowd when Hull win a corner. Sorba Thomas departs the scene, for Robinio Vaz, as do Jack Grealish and Barry. Charly Alcaraz and Tyler Dibling come on.
3.45pm BST
Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest: The chances, the missed chances, just pile up for Forest. This time, the guilty party is Chris Wood.
3.42pm BST
Kari Tulinius gets in touch: “Thierno Barry looks like he’s on course to have a twenty-goal season. Last season he got eight. If his good form isn’t just a blip, that bodes well for the Toffees. Barry wasn’t Moyes’s first, second or third choice, but it seems like it’s working out for both of them.”
3.41pm BST
Hull 2-2 Everton: Hayden Hackney, previously the best player in the Championship, comes on for Maitland-Niles. Harrison Armstrong has departed for Jake O’Brien.
3.39pm BST
Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest: Animation on the sidelines from a visibly annoyed Glasner. He’s made a raft of subs. Dan Ndoye goes off for Callum Hudson-Odoi. Chris Wood replaces Liam Delap, and Ibrahim Sangare replaced Xaver Schlager. Wood seems to be the emergency option; he was just that against Coventry. It didn’t work then.
3.37pm BST
Goal! Hull 2-2 Everton (Belloumi, 74) The Algerian has scored from the bench, having started as a sub because he was tired. Lovely work from Stroud, who squeezes past two defenders, and Belloumi, the form man, who scores.

Leo Addor gets in touch: “In Brazilian Serie A news, Corinthians just announced Clarence Seedorf as its new manager. They fired Fernando Diniz midweek after a 7th loss in a row got them close to the relegation zone. Rumors in the Brazilian press that several managers had been approached and refused to consider the job made it a running joke. One pundit even said, “I’m afraid of answering my phone at home and ending up as Corinthians’ manager.” Seedorf did play in Brazil towards the end of his career, so it’s not completely random, but it is very surprising...”

Hull 1-2 Everton: Barry is one of those strikers who will miss plenty but keep going so that he eventually knocks a few in.
3.31pm BST
Goal! Hull 1-2 Everton (Barry, 68) A bad pass from Sorba Thomas sets away an Everton attack, and Thierno Barry holds his cool, and slots home after Dewsbury-Hall plays him in. The ball squirms to Barry who smashes it straight away.

Hull 1-1 Everton: Some Hull changes, as Belloumi comes on for Gelhardt, the scorer, who can at least think on his first Premier League goal since 2022.
Those changes in full: Stroud, Mohamed Belloumi and Iroegbunam replace Gelhardt, Giles and Crooks. David Moyes makes a change of his own: Tyrique George replacing Brennan Johnson, the thwarted goalscorer.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest: Pierre Sage, we may yet to get to know you better. That first 40 minutes looked like mortal danger. Instead, it’s Forest who are falling apart. The Palace fans will be loving this. When Strand Larsen goes close again, his finish too weak to beat Sels, then they might have celebrated four goals.
3.23pm BST
Goal! Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest (Pino, 59) It is three! Like Palace’s first goal, they were allowed to pass their way through, exposing Sels, who makes a save from Strand Larsen, and Pino can convert the rebound. Oh Forest! And here’s VAR….and it’s still a goal.

Franklyn Hyde gets in touch: “I notice that Hull have a well known biscuit manufacturer as a secondary shirt sponsor, which is the kind of thing that warms the heart of an ex-pat like me. And gives me a Proustian recollection of seeing Mike Dean as the fourth official at White Hart Lane demolishing an entire packet of Chocolate Hob Nobs in the tunnel with his halftime cup of tea...”
3.20pm BST
Crystal Palace 2-1 Nottingham Forest: It was almost 3-1, with Lerma forcing a save from Sels, and then Forest scuff the ball away. Two most vulnerable teams here. It makes for decent entertainment.
3.18pm BST
Goal! Hull 1-1 Everton (Dewsbury-Hall, 55) After John Egan clears the ball behind, Everton have a corner, and they recycle the ball, with Maitland-Niles making up for his previous mistake to find Dewsbury-Hall, who knocks in. VAR again? No, not this time. Dewsbury-Hall was onside.

Half-time: Crystal Palace 2-1 Nottingham Forest How the hell did that happen? Palace were all over the shop, Pierre Sage headed down the dumper and now Selhurst is rocking. Forest did not score the many goals they might have scored, Walter Benitez standing tall in the Palace nets. And so that’s why that’s where we are.
2.52pm BST
Half-time: Hull 0-0 Everton The story of the half was the disallowed goal, Brennan Johnson in an offside position. Everton had struggled to break the deadlock, and once they had their “goal” ruled out, started to come under Hull pressure.
2.51pm BST
Goal! Crystal Palace 2-1 Nottingham Forest (Lerma, 45+4) Palace somehow rampant. Wharton’s corner comes in, and Lerna bundles home. Disaster for Forest, all those missed chances now rued. Matz Sels had just made a brilliant save from Tyrick Mitchell. Here’s VAR, but no, given.

Niall Fogarty gets in touch: “It seems that VAR wants to find reasons to punish Everton. This is the second time in three games VAR has disallowed an EFC goal for incredibly petty reasons… happened last season too.”
2.47pm BST
Hull 0-0 Everton: Two chances for Hull, first for Joe Gelhardt, firing just wide, and then Nobel Mendy heading wide from a corner. Hull have pushed onwards since that disallowed goal.
2.45pm BST
Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest: Palace had been battered, and had not had a shot for 30 minutes. And yet here we are. It’s been a tough season so far for Glasner at Forest though he took time at Palace, with historic results following by the end.
2.43pm BST
Goal! Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest (Kamada, 41) Where did that come from? Palace put together a passing move, and Kamada slots in, so coolly. Strand Larsen’s flick finds the Japan player, and then Quinten Timber finds the final assist. and Oliver Glasner is aghast. Here’s VAR…and it stands….

A three-year process concluded with an emphatic result of overwhelming guilt. If any of these people have any reason as to why an appeal will overturn that - let alone for why City should be allowed to further delay - they should say so.”
2.40pm BST
Crystal Palace 0-1 Nottingham Forest: While all that VAR was rolling on in Hull, Forest should have had another goal. Morgan Gibbs-White hit the crossbar and Liam Delap cannot beat Walter Benitez when he might have done better. Palace living very dangerously.

Glasner was on holiday in the serene Austrian lakes with his wife, Bettina, the sun beating down on the water, when the interest from Forest ramped up. “She said: ‘Why are you always looking at your phone?’ [I said:] ‘I’m going to Athens tomorrow.’ She said: ‘Are you crazy? We are here on vacation.’ There were many, many different options in the summer. The one I thought I would do is staying at home, which is why my family was not really pleased with my early decision to leave again … but in that moment when I looked in detail, into the [Forest] squad, and [gathered] my thoughts, I started to get butterflies.”

The big news for Everton this week is the club being up for sale.
Moyes’s squad was left short on numbers and a centre-forward on deadline day after Beto’s sale to Fiorentina and the collapse of Folarin Balogun’s mooted £40m move from Monaco. Everton have plans to address those weaknesses in January but they could be affected by a potential takeover.
TFG believed it could work around Uefa regulations on multi-club ownership should Everton and Roma qualify for the same European competition. That is not the case and, with Uefa enforcing rules on such ownership structures strictly, TFG faces having to put one club in a blind trust to avoid any sanctions.

Stepping out of Liverpool’s long shadow, the Toffees have to rise above themselves and seize their moment. Will they? This is eighth v 10th. Our weekend previews of the Premier League matches today:
In Sergej Jakirovic and David Moyes, Hull City and Everton boast two of the more “pragmatic” managers in the Premier League. Renowned for their safety-first defensive styles, both teams are happy to surrender possession, rank among the top flight’s lowest sides in pass completion rates, and rely on rapid transitions and set pieces for a major share of their total expected goals. A game featuring two defences that pride themselves on their obduracy may well be settled by a well-delivered dead ball into a packed penalty area. While it may not be aesthetically pleasing, expect to see the massed ranks of defenders on both sides spending much of Sunday afternoon bracing themselves for rearguard action while peering towards the sky. The last time these sides met in the Premier League, Everton ran out easy 4-0 winners. A decade on, the aerial traffic is unlikely to be quite so one-way.
All eyes will be on Oliver Glasner as he returns to Selhurst Park with Nottingham Forest on an afternoon that will be emotionally charged for both sets of supporters and in the boardroom. The Crystal Palace chair, Steve Parish, sought to defuse tensions last week when he urged fans to “buck the trend” by welcoming the manager who led the south London club to the first three major trophies in their history in the space of 12 months. “I would be mortified if he gets anything other than the roof blown off,” said Parish. But given the strength of feeling towards Forest and their owner, Evangelos Marinakis – who is still blamed by some for Palace’s demotion to the Conference League at the expense of Forest last season – many have still not forgiven Glasner for joining their rivals and could still make their feelings known when the Austrian takes his seat in the dugout before kick-off.

12.00pm BST
Preamble Good afternoon, and welcome to coverage of the Premier League action from the 2pm (all times BST) kick-offs, and more besides, with a keenly awaited south coast derby taking place between Southampton and Portsmouth being played before those from 12pm.
In the top division, both Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest have begun slowly, and there’s history between the clubs, with the added spice of Oliver Glasner now being the manager of Forest. Hull have been an early delight this season, while Everton have returned to their state of perpetual limbo, having been put up for sale – again – this week.
The Premier League games get under way at 2pm. Before that, updates from St Mary’s and team news. Join me.
