Bournemouth 3-0 Milan, Celtic 1-2 Celta Vigo, and more: Europa League – as it happened
Bournemouth beat AC Milan, while Celtic lose again and there are draws for Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Brighton

10.07pm BST
Righto, that’s it from us for tonight. An amazing one for Bournemouth and a disastrous one for Celtic, with Palace and Sunderland somewhere in the middle. I’ll leave you, though, with the best thing I saw during it: Robin Roefs’ double save. Peace out.

FULL TIME: Besiktas 2-2 Crystal Palace Palace will be irritated not to have won, but their performance was much improved – in fairness against a less good team – and they have Mateta back scoring goals.

9.58pm BST
FULL TIME: Bournemouth 3-0 AC Milan A memorable night for Bournemouth, who follow their convincing weekend win with another.
9.57pm BST
Lovely from Bournemouth again, Adli away down the right and finding Gannon-Doak on far side; they want four. But Milan get enough bodies in the way, just.
9.53pm BST
We’ll have five additional minutes at Besikts … and three at Bournemouth.
9.52pm BST
FULL TIME: Celtic 1-2 Celta Vigo No side has progressed in the Europa League after losing their first three games; Celtic are struggling.
9.52pm BST
“Ruben Amorim, it’s happened again” sing the Bournemouth fans; Amorim sees the funny side.
9.51pm BST
Here come Bournemouth again, a terrific crossfield pass from Cook taken by Rayan on the move and on the chest, which forces him past Pavlovic. The angle is tightish, but he shoots low, hard and for the far post … only for Torriani to tip around it. That’s a brilliant save.
Updated at 9.51pm BST
9.48pm BST
GOAL! AFC Bournemouth 3-0 AC Milan (Adli 84) It’s on the wrong side, but Adli isn’t bothered, waving a left foot at a terrific shot that passes through the top of the wall, which splits, beating Torriani at his near post. What a night this is for Bournemouth.
Updated at 10.01pm BST
9.46pm BST
At Bournemouth, Cook and Adli stand behind a free-kick, left of centre, 22 yards out.
9.46pm BST
Gosh, more problems for Palace. Strand Larsen, wo wore that assault from Umit, turns to get after a loose ball, and pulls up with no one near him. I don’t like the look of that at all, and I fear we’ll not see him again for a weeks, at best.
9.44pm BST
Palace want a penalty, Wharton disguising a nice ball into Kamada, which takes him by Djalo. And before he shoot, he has arms around him, falls, and the ref gestures that he should get up. I don’t know, on the one hand, Kamada might’ve stayed u, shot and scored but, on the other, he may has gone down easily but there’s just no way that isn’t a foul.
9.41pm BST
9.40pm BST
RED CARD! Besiktas' Umit fouls Strand Larsen and is sent off! This is an absolutely absurd challenge, Umit leaping, both feet off the ground, and landing on Strand Larsen’s ankle. Easy decision for the ref, and just as Besiktas were taking command, he trips them up.
Updated at 10.09pm BST
9.38pm BST
GOAL! Besiktas 2-2 Crystal Palace (Olaitan 73) Olaitan nicks away from Kamada and Osorio, just outside the box, moving from centre to right, then swivels into a shot that skips into the far corner – though Benitez was perhaps a little deep. Had he been a bit further off his line, he probably stops that, good finish though it was.

9.35pm BST
Celta are pushing for a third and Celtic, beaten 4-1 at Benfica last time out, have a problem.
9.33pm BST
WHAT A GOAL! Celtic 1-2 Celta Vigo (Javi Rodriguez 71) Celta attack down the left and get around the back then, when the cut-back is cleared, Rodriguez again times his arrival perfectly, taking a touch then exploding into a drive, dead straight from 20 yards out, that Johnstone can’t get near. Two in three for Celta!
Updated at 9.41pm BST
9.30pm BST
GOAL! Celtic 1-1 Celta Vigo (Javi Rodriguez 68) A free-kick outswung from the right and Rodriguez meets it on the mooch, punishing a header that Johnstone can only help into the net.
Updated at 9.40pm BST
9.28pm BST
Worse still, Evanilson hurt himself making the challenge. He’s immediately replaced by Rodriguez.
9.28pm BST
Ach, a poor touch from Tomori means he’s robbed in centrefield, Evanilson winning the ball and Gannon-Doak slipping through for Cook, and he’s in … but the ref pulls play back having blown for a foul. That’s poor from the official, because he should’ve played advantage and I don’t even think Tomori did anything wrong.
9.24pm BST
It’s hammering it down at Bournemouth. Pre-match, Marco Rose was already talking about Sunday’s three-point banker at Old Trafford, so I’d expect a lot of keep-ball in the remaining half-hour, and actually, here come changes, Adams, Kluivert and Tavernier off, with Cook, Rayan and Toth on.
9.21pm BST
Back at Parkhead, a cross into the box picks out Scales, who leaps, hangs, heads … on to the top of the bar and over.
9.19pm BST
OH WHAT A GOAL! Besiktas 1-2 Crystal Palace (Mateta 55) Disallow that! A ball in behind, inside-left channel, and Mateta gets his body between it and Akdag, who clambers over him but can’t circumnavigate his frame. Even so, though, the finish is unexpected, a rise leathered brutally that beats Nubel at his near post, shrieking into the roof. One game back, one goal, and the corner flag is booted as accurately as it was the last time he scored for Palace, in last season’s Conference League final. Two goals in four minutes and now they lead!

9.16pm BST
Bournemouth are enjoying themselves, I think, knocking the ball about in midfield and making Milan run. Which I expect they can do as, dreadful though his time at Man United was, Ruben Amorim had the players fit and one of the various reasons they’re so dreadful now is they’re no longer at the same physical level.
9.14pm BST
Yup, it's a goal. The ref points to the centre-spot and Palace – who, as we said, are playing well – are level.
9.14pm BST
GOAL! Besiktas 1-1 Crystal Palace (Pino 51) Pino has the ball in the net for Palace, turning home adroitly after a ball inside the full-back releases Khalili, who picks him out with a cut-back. The ref immediately disallows it for an offside against Khalaili, but I think this’ll be overturned by VAR – he was on.
Updated at 9.28pm BST
9.10pm BST
Iago Aspas is still playing for Celta Vigo. Here he is botching a chance to take them into the 2017 Europa League final.
9.08pm BST
Two changes for Meelan: Bartesaghi and Rabiot for Estupinan and Loftus-Cheek.
9.07pm BST
We’re away again at Besiktas … and now at Bournemouth.
9.06pm BST
GOAL! Celtic 1-0 Celta Vigo (Baur 47) Hassan nashes down the left, cuts back, and Baur meets it on the burst, cracking low and too hard for Radu, who gets a hand to it but can’t keep it out.
Updated at 9.26pm BST
9.03pm BST
We’re under way again at Celtic.

44 min: You could even say Bournemouth are in dreamland. We don’t do cliches here, though.
8.45pm BST
43 min: Tavernier whips a free-kick dangerously across the Milan goal and it nearly drops in the top corner with Torriani, the youngster, a mere spectator in goal.
8.43pm BST
42 min: Gannon-Doak with more good work down the right. He beats his man and bends a fine cross into the danger zone. Savage, on commentary, is purring his approval of some good old-fashioned wing play.
8.42pm BST
40 min: Truffert chases a ball down the left channel for Bournemouth. He does well to gather the ball and cut back inside the defender. Overall, the hosts look far superior to their opponents. Sharper in how they use the ball, quicker to press – you name it.
On the bench, Christian Pulisic and Luka Modric are pictured looking suitably ashen-faced.
8.39pm BST
39 min: Safe to say the powers-that-be at Old Trafford will not be approaching Ruben Amorim for a reunion any time soon, anyway.

Goal! 32 min - Bournemouth 2-0 Milan (Tavernier pen) It’s there! Marcus Tavernier strokes in the second penalty of the night. Milan are all over the shop, down to 10, a callow 21-year-old keeper now in nets. This could be a cricket score!

30 min: The replacement goalkeeper, Lorenzo Torriani, comes on. But they haven’t taken anyone off! This is funny. Torriani runs off again. And they make a change: Omari Hutchinson is hooked by Amorim, who appears apologetic.

28 min: Red card for Milan! Mike Maignan Maignan pushes Tyler Adams in the face at the resulting corner … and is immediately shown a red card! It’s being checked by the VAR. Astonishing scenes. Is the red card going to be confirmed? Is it a penalty? Will football ever be the same again?
The red card is confirmed. Maignan is asked to leave the field, having been loitering around for a while. Fikayo Tomori of Milan looks furious. Maignan wanders off, and we’ll have a new goalie in place for another penalty …
Updated at 8.50pm BST

4 min: There was a bit of early intent from Milan but overall, a steady start for both teams. But wait! A chance for Kluivert from close range, who misses his kick, then Gannon-Doak has a shot blocked! That could easily have been 1-0. The fans are in fine voice.

FULL TIME: Lech Poznan 1-1 Sunderland Sunderland should’ve won, might’ve lost, and with seven points and two home games to come, they’re nicely set.
7.35pm BST
Then Brighton go up the other end and Rutter shoots … and Hanus saves.
7.34pm BST
The keeper punches it clear, and might that be Sunderland’s final opportunity? Brighton, meantime, almost lose it in Jablonec, Nebyla bending low and just around the post.
7.32pm BST
Into the final minute in Poznan, O’Nien’s throw earning a corner which yields another; we’re playing the first of three added minutes.
7.31pm BST
“Fabian Hürzeler may be a new kind of manager, but his lack of top level experience isn’t unheard of, writes Kári Tulinius. “Compared to Arrigo Sacchi, Hürzeler is James Milner. When criticised for his lack of playing experience, Sacchi famously quipped: ‘I never realised that to become a jockey you needed to be a horse first.’”
Agree, it’s not unheard of, and the riposte is, of course, a classic, but it was unusual then whereas now, I think it’s likely to become a trend.
7.30pm BST
We’ve played 86 minutes in Poznan. If Sunderland have to make do with a draw, they’ll be disappointed because they’ve had enough chances to win several games but, on the other hand seven points from three games is pretty good and would put them well on the way to the top 24 if not the top eight.
7.26pm BST
Now Methalie attacks the Poznan box, weaving in from the left, shooting … just wide of the near post.
7.25pm BST
Le Fee’s been lively in the second half and he again sashays into the box and looks ready to shoot. But when the gap closes, he lays back for Rigg with lovely pace on the ball, used to send a left-footed curler inches over the angle – so close to goal it lands on the netting.
7.23pm BST
In Turin, Juventus have, my score has belatedly updated to tell me, equalised for 2-2 Rennes thanks to Woltemade’s penalty.
7.22pm BST
Jablonec are pushing, Verbruggen forces to beat away at his near post after Tchanturishvili carries down the left and shoots hard. Brighton have sent on Andres, David, Ayari and Boskovic for Gross, Boscagli, Hinshelwood and O’Riley.
7.18pm BST
Sunderland go in search of a winner, Le Fee opting not to shoot when he has an open lane, instead belatedly feeding Fofana, who slices wide of the near post.
7.17pm BST
Back in Jablonec, the home side have missed two chances, one a good one and the other a shot from distance.
7.16pm BST
AMAZING DOUBLE-SAVE FROM ROEFS! Ishak crosses from the left directly into the path of Walemark, who arrives on to it and punches hard from maybe seven yards. Roefs flings himself in the road, then Gurgul leathers the rebound from five yards, and somehow he’s up to dive in the way of that one too. That is so, so, so good, and Sunderland will lose this if they’re not careful.
Updated at 7.45pm BST
7.14pm BST
GOAL! Lech Poznan 1-1 Sunderland (Bengtsson 70) Ultimately, Sunsderland deserve this as punishment for the chances they’ve missed. A corner goes to the back post where Skrzypczak heads into O’Nien’s face. The ball drops to Bengtsson on the left side of the box, and he drills a competent low volley inside the near post.
Updated at 7.26pm BST
7.11pm BST
Le Fee wriggles space inside the Poznan box, trying a chapeau before fighting to regain possession, dragging a shot straight at the keeper. As time elapses, Sunderland need to keep going forward and resist temptation to sit on their lead, because Poznan look better equipped to score than avoid conceding.
7.07pm BST
OH WHAT A GOAL! Trabzonspor 2-0 Hearts (Franculino 58) He takes the ball out on the right and sways away from his marker, then megs Mato with a pass into Salah, who cleverly adjusts feet to guide a return into his path. Even so, there’s plenty to do, the ball under his feet but, from 15 yards, he digs out a curler into the far side-netting. That’s delicious behaviour.

7.04pm BST
Sunderland remove Mukiele, Angulo and Xhaka, with Rigg, Hume and Sadiki coming on.
7.02pm BST
Gosh, Sunderland might rue their profligacy. This time, Angulo, who’s had a really strong game, burrows to the by-line, cuts back, and Mukiele is there, inside the box with loads of time and space. He should place his shot, but instead lashes at it, and Lis tips behind for a corner. Xhaka swings it in, Ahoka ducks into a header … and Lis hurls himself right to tip away.
6.59pm BST
A ball flighted into Ishak … and this time, Danso does really well, craning his neck towards his own goal and around a clearing header. I think Sunderland will score again, as I said earlier, but they need to keep the back door shut. Oh, and here’s Angulo, taking a pass from Fofana that the defenders should cut out but don’t. He works a shooting lane, but doesn’t get hold of the effort, stubbing straight at the keeper.
6.57pm BST
More from Poznan…
6.56pm BST
Nice from Sunderland, Mukiele cutting back from the by-line, perhaps just a little behind Diarra, who fetches it from around his arse and drills wide. That ought to have been 2-0.
6.54pm BST
Nice from Walemark, who twists O’Nien’s legs around each other, dips outside, shoot low … and the effort skips just by the far post.
6.52pm BST

I have a slightly different take on this: United have finally broken Bruno, jiggering his career with a series of poor decisions and broken promises. Of course, he’s responsible for his own behaviour, but the man is mad as hell and he’s not going to take this any more. Imagine United in the years since he signed without him.

“No fan of the pink Sunderland kit,” emails Tim Smith, “but it gets a pass due to the absence of gaudy sponsorship across the front. It just looks cleaner to my eyes. Brighton’s throwback kit against Arsenal this season was a stunner, for the same reason. I’m a Leeds (and Adidas) fan, but the current sponsor/logo on the shirt makes it a dealbreaker for me.”
Yeah, the Leeds logo is grim gear, but you accepts your money you takes your choice. And agree, the Brighton one is a work of art.

It’s quieter than it was in Poznan, Sunderland controlling midfield, but as I type, Danso, sent off at Bournemouth last Sunday, misses his kick and pulls Ishak down accordingly'; he’s booked. In better news for him, Black Sherif, his favourite Ghanaian singer – we saw him at a gig where my non-football-loving wife shamed me by recognising him – is coming to London on 4th December. Rutter finds Osman at inside-left, a lovely ball arced down the line and inside. Inside the box, he shows the defender too much of the it but bundles through one challenge, only to stumble into the second and lose possession.

These Brighton players have loads to play for. Imagine the atmosphere around their training ground at the moment, and how much those not starting in the league want to force their way in. Poznan are second in the Ekstraklasa, with 27 goals in 10 games, easily the most in the league, and they look likely tonight. I’d be shocked if this contest ends 0-1, but Sunderland should be good for at least one more goal too.
6.13pm BST
In Turkey, Trabzonspor are dominating against Hearts, but they’ve Andre Onana in goal and one can never be sure when he might toss one in: when Man United were last in the Champions League, they scored 12 goals in three matches against Bayern, Galatasaray twice and FCK, earning a single draw, largely because of his work in net.
6.09pm BST
Back in Poznan, Sunderland find Fofana, left side of the box, he shoots low and hard … hitting the far post! But the ball is then cut back to Xhaka who, eight yards out, should score. He sweeps goalwards … and straight at the keeper.

I guess he’s one of the first of the new guard of manager who had no playing career to speak of, but had a talent for understanding the game and where once, they’d have been a coach if that, now they’re running clubs. I’m certain we’ll see much more of this. Oh, but as I type, Verbruggen has to save sprawlingly at his near post.

Every time I’ve looked at Brighton, who show eight changes from their weekend win, they’ve got Jablonec boxed. The way Fabian Hurzeler has inculcated a style that allows players to come in and out without it changing, is exceptional.

GOAL! Rennes 1-1 Juventus (Al-Tamaari 15) A cross to the back post is sent back across and Al-Taamari sticks away.

GOAL! Sturm Graz 1-0 Marseille (Diakite 13) Three against Grazer at the weekend and now, the ball is given away in midfield, Weinhandl, the 17-year-old, wins it back, slides through the centre, and Diakite leans one way to slot confidently the other.

And he’s playing well, pulling wide and crossing to win a corner. Back to the pink kit, given this is its second away outing in Europe, against teams with whom Sunderland’s colours don’t clash, we have to assume someone at the club is doing their best to make it legendary. It’d go nice with Frankfurt in May.

“It’s hard not to root for Timur Tutierov,” writes Kári Tulinius. “He is a Crimean Tatar refugee. He was just nine when Russia invaded and he fled with his family to Spain. Four years later they moved back to Ukraine. He’s never been back to his home.”

Sunderland fans in Poznan. I can only imagine the scenes, given a wild fanbase who feared they’d never get to do this.
5.54pm BST
GOAL! Juventus 1-0 Rennes (Celik 5) Don’t Juve need that. In loads of trouble, eighth in the league and with Luciano Spalletti fighting for his job, a lovely touch from McKennie allows Woltemade to send Celik though at inside-right, and he finishes confidently into the far corner.

This is such an open game – twice, Poznan have been inside the Sunderland box looking dangerous, Roefs smothering one shot, just about.
5.51pm BST
That took 78 seconds – and remember, Sunderland scored at 90+3 of 90+5 in their last game against Torreense. The Prem, problems, but in Europe they’re flying!
5.49pm BST
GOAL! Lech Poznan 0-1 Sunderland (Tutierov 2) Poznan are bottom of the Europa League and already, we’ve seen why. The ball goes back to Lis, who sells Gurgul short with the ball out wide. Angulo snaps into the challenge, needs only one touch to set, and crosses for Tutierov to head home his first Sunderland goal!

Sunderland are in their pink kit once more. One of those that, if it gets games to go with it, will become a classic. If they get walloped in it, on the other hand, it’ll go down in infamy.

Preamble It’s been a strange start to the season for Sunderland and I’m not just talking about those pink Elvis kits. Yes, that is a real sentence. They’ve had some rotten luck – if they could’ve picked two players to avoid injury, Dan Ballard and Brian Brobbey would probably have been them – and, after last season’s outrageous exploits, they now sit bottom of the Premier League.
However! Making their first foray into Europe in 52 years, they won their first home game then, on their first trip abroad, they conceded a ridiculous opener, equalised, had a late penalty confiscated … and scored an incredible injury-time winner which was also Noah Sadiki’s first goal for the club, all of which combined into one of the great away-end goons. And no, I’m not enumerating it in such detail because my best mate had to cry off late doors due to a work crisis, I promise; by way of compensation, I’ve demanded he furnish us with photos from Poznan.
So, Sunderland’s trip to Poland will form the centrepiece of our early coverage, but that’s not the half of what we’ve got going on. Little more than a decade ago, if someone told us Milan were going to Bournemouth, we’d have assumed it was in holiday and told them not to miss Sega World or Splashdown in Poole. Now, though, they’re visiting for a game of football, one of the biggest ever played in the town, and Dean Court will be bouncing for what is our featured match in the second part of the evening.
And, in among all of that, we’ve got Crystal Palace’s trip to Besiktas and one of the great – not a word I use lightly in this context – town centre grounds, plus the linguistic derby of Celtic v Celta, Juventus v Rennes, and form team Brighton’s jaunt to Jablonec in the Conference.
Kick-offs: 5.45pm BST and 8pm BST
