Let’s see what today’s results have done to the Premier League table. Manchester City rise to the top without lifting a finger – they host Sunderland tomorrow afternoon – while Brighton rise to third, their reward for giving champions Arsenal an awful chasing. Everton make it up to fifth, Newcastle rise to eighth, and Aston Villa scramble their way up to 15th, with Spurs languishing in the relegation places. And yes, it really is too early to be using phrases like that, but it helpfully illustrates their predicament so, shamelessly, there it is.

Dundee 2-1 Motherwell
Hibernian 1-1 Aberdeen
St Johnstone 1-1 Falkirk

One other score of note from the Scottish Championship: Marvin Bartley’s Stenhousemuir beat Arbroath 1-0 and are currently five points clear at the top, ahead of the more fancied Partick, Raith Rovers, Dunfermline and Livingston.”
