Tottenham 2-3 Aston Villa: Premier League – as it happened
Spurs scored their first goals of the season but Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson and Emi Buendía earned the win for Villa

Match report And here’s the report.
Well done to Villa. They bag their first win of the season.
Spurs have now scored a goal – two in fact – but it won’t ease their problems in what was a flattering scoreline.
Thanks for joining me. Hope the rest of your weekend is better than De Zerbi’s.

A word for Manzambi, Villa’s record signing.
He was everywhere. On the left, on the right, bagged a goal. Very impressive.
Hardly a hot take, but I think he’ll do very well at Villa under possibly the league’s best manager.
2.50pm BST
Graeme Neill: “Surely in the worst Opta fashion, the best single word to end on is “Lads”, which remains the start of one of the great quotes of the Premier League era.”
It is becoming a bit, well, Spursy, isn’t it?
2.43pm BST
Spurs were just so toothless (when it mattered).
With 65% possession, and more shots at goal, they really ought to have taken a lead.
They thought they’d squared things to make it 1-1 when Kudus swept home from close range, but Robertson, who had a decent game despite making a horrible mistake for the Villa opener, was just a shoulder length off-side.

Some correspondence from readers:
“Redknapp in,” says Filip Gieldon. “Never have I seen a collection of more mediocre players and signings being called great. Tottenham should sack the manager and get Harry Redknapp in, he’d fit right in.”
Alexander Whitney: “Regarding De Zerbi’s comments about Spurs’ mental block, he’s been in charge for, what, 6 months now? In the worst Opta fashion, let’s end with one word. Accountability.”
“Is there any truth in the rumour that Spurs will do a lap of honour if they win the toss in the next game?” – don’t bet against it, Malc Shuttleworth.
Cian O’Mahony: “Spurs are summed up by the way Maddison got out of the way of Buendia’s shot for 0-3.”
2.35pm BST
Villa move up to 15th.
Spurs drop into the bottom three where they’ll stay for the international break.
2.33pm BST
Full-time! Tottenham 2-3 Aston Villa No time for a comeback as boos meet the final whistle.
Spurs showed some fight but there’s no doubt the right team won today.
Spurs were the better team in the first half but didn’t take their chances. Villa did and ran away to a 3-0 lead before two late consolation goals from the home team.
2.32pm BST
GOAL! Tottenham 2-3 Aston Villa (van Hecke, 90+7) Now then! Rather than shoot, Robertson chips to the back post where van Hecke is totally unmarked and he heads the ball down and into the goal!

90+7 min: Mings heads Gallagher’s free-kick clear. Spurs come back at them and Barkley gives away a foul. This is straighter, but a little further away. Someone will have to hit it like Roberto Carlos to trouble Suzuki from here.
2.30pm BST
90+6 min: Hemmings is dispossed by a sliding Gallagher and then fouls Savio down Spur’s right. Chance for another cross. And then who knows? A few seconds to score a third?
