Here’s Paul MacInnes’s report from Debrecen.
Football and politics are inseparable in the modern world, no matter how many people wish that weren’t true. But whether the beautiful game can ease the ills of our age is another matter. After a week in which the issue of Irish support for the people of Gaza had turned this fixture into a battle of conscience, the outcome of this underwhelming match ultimately felt inconsequential.

Some reaction from that Germany defeat. “I think the important thing is that we stand together and that won’t change,” Germany defender Jonathan Tah told ARD. “Of course, with the enthusiasm surrounding the new coach, things can get very hyped up from the outside, but ultimately, it comes down to what we do on the pitch and how we perform.”

Chris Paraskevas is back in touch: “Statement win (against the Germany C team) and a clean sheet that’ll make King Otto proud. Another psychological barrier broken for this team. Their ceiling is high. Exciting times.”

Bastian Schweinsteiger on the German TV broadcast: “We’re no longer a top team. We’re now just an average team. We no longer have players who make the difference. Even Greece have Karetsas, Tzolis, Pavlidis - for me those are players who make the difference. Hopefully Jürgen Klopp manages to develop a team that can play Klopp football.”

Full-time: Norway 1-2 Portugal Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva have a stand-off after the former City player gets a booking. Has Odegaard got an injury? Nyland goes up for a late corner in an attempt to rescue a night that’s been disastrous for him, and he was only saved by VAR for what would have been a second Goncalo Ramos goal. A game won by goals from Joao Felix and Ramos goes to the Portuguese, and they did it without Ronaldo. Funny, that. Jorge Jesus has a 100% record as national team manager.

Norway 1-2 Portugal: Just the game in Oslo to finish now, one that Portugal seem likely to see out.
9.40pm BST
Full-time: Germany 0-1 Greece A Wirtz pass that runs out of play ends the affair. A famous win for Greece, a highly disappointing night for the Germans. Jurgen Klopp has one point from two matches in charge.

Germany 0-1 Greece: Into added time in Augsburg, and there seems little hope of a way back for the Klopp team. The ball is pumped in by Kimmich before Behrens spoons the ball back to the Greek goalkeeper.
9.37pm BST
Full-time: Israel 0-3 Ireland The second half barely mattered, the game itself was a sideline to far wider issues in itself, and there are no handshakes between the teams at the final whistle. Both of them stay apart, the Irish exchanging high-fives, the Israelis showing their disappointment.
9.35pm BST
Germany 0-1 Greece: Wirtz cuts a miserable figure as another move breaks down. This is not happening for Germany. Jurgen Klopp’s doctrines may take some time to take. Does he have that time?
9.33pm BST
Norway 1-2 Portugal: Another sub coming on, and it’s Bernardo Silva to shore up the midfield.
9.31pm BST
Germany 0-1 Greece: Alan Cunningham gets in touch: “The people seen leaving the stadium in Augsburg were actually the other half of Klopp’s 44-man squad - ARD is reporting they had to catch the bus back to the team base...”
9.30pm BST
Norway 1-2 Portugal: Another Portuguese attacker comes on but it won’t be Ronaldo, it will be Trincao, these days of Al Ahli, once of Barcelona and Wolves. Diogo Costa has not had much to do since the Norway goal. Srrand Larsen, another once of Wolves, is on for the home team.
